Frightful Faeries & Hideous Monsters
From banshees to vampires, Irish Celtic mythology is dominated by frightful faeries and hideous monsters. Unlike the pixie-like characters in other cultures who grant wishes and cast benevolent spells, Irish faeries are vengeful elementals who are quick to anger and sometimes lead unsuspecting humans to their deaths. Often hideous in appearance, they are like stereotypical ghosts rising from graveyards. They belong to a realm that poses danger for human beings.
Presented by Prato resident Patti M. Walsh, this hour-long, multimedia presentation includes discussions of the Banshee, Dullahan (the Headless Horseman), the Big Grey Man, vampires, mermaids, shapeshifters, and sea monsters.
